MRS. SAMUEL MAHAN, WIFE OF UNION PLASTERER, DIESMr*. Kmma Mahan of DuluthHeights, wife of Samuel Mahan, one of the oldest and most prominent members of the local Plasterer’s union, died last Thursday morning,following an illness of several years, surrounded by all the members of herfamily.Mrs. Mahan was 60 years of ape and came to Duluth from Colling-wood, Ont., as a bride in 1880, Mr. Mahan having settled here in 1873. lfe has boon prominently Identified with the local labor movement for more than 30 years.During her long residence In Duluth. Mrs. Mahan was active in church work, at first in the west end of the ritv, and later on Duluth Heights, whore the family has resided for 28 years. She was president of the Toadies* Aid society of the HighlandPresbyterian church and was lovedand respected by the entire neighborhood.She was also active as a member of the Modern Samaritans, the officers of which read the beautiful ritual of the order at th • funeral services, held at the Duluth Heights church Saturday afternoon. A large number of Samaritans attended as did the entire population of the Heights, filling thlt;y little church and overflowing out into the street.As evidence of the love and esteem in which Mrs. Mahan was held by hosts of friends, the floral offerings completely flded the living room of the family home. Interment was at Forest Hill cemetery. Rev. J. C. Map-son. pastor of the Highiand church, officiated and paid a splendid tribute to the life and character of the deceased as a wife, mother and friend.To the editor of The TAbor World Mrs. Mahan was a life-long friend and well-wisher, of. the kind whose friendship is the most valuable treasure on earth. Her death is a community loss.She is survived by her husband, three sons and two daughters, seven grandchildren, a sister and a brother. The children are Frank and John of Duluth Heights, Milton of Hibbing. Mrs. James Vivian of the Heights and Mrs. Christobal Stauber of West Seventh street. Her sister is Mrs. George Albright of Portland, Ore., who was with Mrs. Mahan during her final illness, and her brother is Thomas H.
