Illinois Indian Mounds Believed to Contain Treasures. Hecker, NL, Jan. 29.—Within five miles of this town an Indian grave yard recently was found by a party of hunters. . Having heard from old settlers that an Indian chief was bur ied in this vicinity, one of the mounds, which was about 130 feet in circumference and about 5 feet high, was opened, and the skeleton of an enormous Indian was unearth ed, the thigh bone of which measured 22 inches. Taken in proportion, the Indian must have measured fully 7 feet and 3 inches tall. Found with,the body were a tomahawk and other valuable relics. The remaining eight mounds will be thoroughly explored, with the hope that the chief’s remains may be found.. The many relics found with the skeleton indicate that this was a wealthy tribe, and persons in this vicinity hope to unearth ‘objects of great value.
