', Jamon B. Smith, One of Dover's Worthy Citizens, Cut Down in Life's Pris tia with a feeling of the utmost sad ews and with the sense of a solemn duty to perform that we chronicle the untimely demise of Jagnes B. Smith, who departed this life, after a brief illness, at the resi dence of his parents in Dover, Ky., on Saturday morning, January 23d, 1897, in the 44th year of his age and in the prime of life. At the beginning of the Christmas holi days the deceased, accompanied by hi wife, departed for Portsmouth, oo. of visit to friends, and it was while at Ports mouth that he was stricken down with paralysis, his entire right side being af fected. As there was imminent proba bility of the recurrence of the malady, he was hastily taken to his home in Dover, where the devoted attention of an affer tionate wife and loving parents was given him, but to no avail, for after much suf fering, both of mind and body, enduring nearly two weeks, death ended his age niew, and a merciful Father called his spirit hence, we trust, to everlasting rest and pew James Bayless Sall was the oldest 90 of Dr. Fletcher Smith and Catherine Smith, and was born in Higginsport, 0. April 4th, 1959. He parted many years of life life in Higginaport, and for a sbort period resided in the state of Illinois. He moved to Dover with his parents, with | hats he always made his home, in 1978, and has since been a resident of Dover. Doveased was a member of a very bright and interesting family, and himself possessed more than the ordinary amount of intelligence. He was remarkably witty, and nearly always took a humorous rather than a serious of things. He only lacked application and concentra tion of his natural mental endowments to ‘have made for himself » marked career ‘to any vocation or pre! The strong point and ruling passion of the deceased Was 0 almost unnatural and ‘extraordinary filial devotion to his pa | rents ands great love of his home. His mother was the center of his thoughts and hopes; home was sacred haven of rest to him. ‘The deceased remained a bachelor until last April, he was united in mar riage to Miss Eva Carle of Wortsmouth,
