Baptist Church In Carrizo Named Texas Historic LandmarkThe historic First Baptist Church in Carrizo Springs has been named a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, significant to the history of Texas. This announce-ment was made today by John Ben Shepperd of Odessa, president of the Texas State Hostorical Survey Committee.The words on the plaque are: First Baptist Church — First Church built by Texas Baptist west of Nueces River. Organizec May, 1878. Building constructed 1888-1891 on land donated by Levi and Matilda English. Designed by postor, Rev. R. H. Brown.
