Prominent Carolina Family Asks Furth, investi gation of Case CONCORD, N. C., Jan. 27. UP— Phquest into the death of Tom Gay Strane, son of a prominent and wealthy Concord family, was to be ed here late today by Cor oner I. A. Yow. Coltrane was found dead on the morning of Dec. 4 on the walk in |et of the home of Dr. E. A nheimer. According to the first verdict of coroner Yow's jury, Colt rane died of “a fall, exposure and acute alcoholism.” _ However, young Cotrane’s family, believing he did not die a natural death, asked that the inquest be reopened. Coltrane was last seen alive on the night of Dec. 3. He had es corted Mrs. Annie Cannon Rey nolds, separated wife of Smith Reynolds, to a party at Dr. Misen heimer’s home. Smith Reynolds is a son of the late R. J. Reynolds, multi-million aire tobacco manufacturer, and his is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Cannon, Concord, millionaire family. _ Mrs. Reynolds said Coltrane es corted her from the Misenheimer home to the Concord Hotel, to a cafe and then to her home which he left at 10:30 p. m., on the night of Dec. 3., she last saw Coltrane as he entered his automobile. _ Tom Coltrane was the grandson of E. B. Coltrane, president of the National Bank of Concord, and son of L. D. Coltrane, cashier of the bank. His body bore a scar on the right side of the head above the eye; abrasions on the bridge and end of the nose, and minor aS: on the left leg and left Fifty witnesses are scheduled to be examined in the inquest.
