C i tl i, ie from Sanlpor Cane Death of Physician. PRACTICED HERE 25 YEARS. Veteran of Civil War, Was Active In Religious Work. Dr. William John Sloan, aged 82, a practicing physician in East Liverpool for more than 25 years, died at 1:30 o‘clock this morning at his home in Jackson street. Death was due to a complication of diseases arising from Izialipox contracted four years ago. He was born in Pittsburg, Pa. He re moved to Salineville more than 80 years ago. He later moved with his family to East Liverpool where he es tablished a wide practice in medicine. While residing temporarily in Texas, he was stricken with smallpox. Dr. Sloan, although not in good health since the smallpox attack, was not taken seriously ill, however, until about two weeks ago. He was a mem ber of the First United Presbyterian church and took an active part in religious work. He was a veteran of the Civil war, enlisting on President Lincoln's first call for volunteers. He served for four years as a lieutenant in Company C, Independent Pennsylvania at Artillery. Two brothers were in battle during the Civil war.
