Washington Ave., a*‘ Wednesday following an illness a8£ of several years. 'e^Mrs. Rowell, who was born in Clinton County,Mo., April slr24,1875, was the former Miss l)alIda Williams, daughter of Alex-ander Beatty and Mary Isabel C-Daniels Williams. Hers is a Wafamily which traces its Amer- co'ican origin to Roger Williams 'founder of the colony of Rhode ^.VIsland. W.She was educated at Lex- l,K inglon Baptist College. Lex- 8riinglon. Mo., and Valparaiso ru'University, Valparaiso. Ind., fe( Oct. 8. 1901. she was married '^s to Mr. Rowell at her family’s w,£ farm home near Kearney, Mo., gh and in 1903, moved with him from Carney, Mo., to El Do- jslrado. Mr. Rowell, a leading 'ni local banker at the time of his death Sept. I, 1961 During the oil boom Mrs. as Rowell was influential in organ- nc izing the El Dorado Young Women's Christian Associa- *(r lion and in erecting the buil- a£ ding on Peach Street, which or houses the organization. She served the YWCA as president for several years. As an early president of El Dorado eI Garden Club, she supervised ci the planting of the memorial s£ avenue of magnolia trees along w Champagnolle Road from the rr railroad crossing to the entran- ce of Woodlawn Cemetery. She clt; was active also in the Self w Culture Club for a mumber of years.Although she was neither a musician nor an artist. Mrs. Rowell was deeply interested V in the arts and was instru- tl mental in bringing such per- jr formers as Galli Curci and ilt; Anna Case to El Dorado. She e made significant contributions u of classical art books and bib- lj libal literature to Ouachita Bap- a list University. Southern Baptist u and New Orleans Theological ti Seminaries. Oklahoma State University and El Dorado's Barton Library.She was a member ot First ( Baptist Church and a teacher e in the Sunday school of that |, church lor more than 50 years, t Mrs. Rowell is survived by c three daughters. Mrs. I tilery 1 E. Hanna of El Dorado, g Mrs. Earnest K. Dodson of v Midland. Tex. and Mrs, John i; H. Bonnar of Glendale. Calif.: five grandchildren. Mrs. Joe C. Finnell of Dallas, Mrs. William .t Sidney Sugg of Magnolia, Mrs. | Richard Hugh Brady of Longmont. Colo.. M'ss Margaret Louise Bonnar ol Glendale, and Albert Rowell Hanna of El Dorado; and four great grandsons. She also leaves a number of nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be at 10 a. m. Friday at The First Baptist Church with Dr. Don Harbuck officiating. He will be assisted by the Rev. Jerry Bauman.Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Young's.The pallbearers will be Sam Babb. Harry Reeves. Claude Grumpier. Jack Kerr, Sam Brooks, Don Montgomery, and Roland Lindsey.
