FOLGER United Press Staff Correspondent MEXICO CITY, Jan. 26.—Mexico’s irrigation and land reclamation program is repidly materializing and the development constitutes one of the biggest achievements of. the Calles’ administration! Three projects are already tinder construction and 18 or 20 sites are being investigated by engineers.Hie - government’s extensive scheme for development of agricultural resources is based largely on the plans of the United States Reclamation Service. The purpose is to Bettle the people on their own lands, giving them homes and a livelihood,' to increase the productivity of the soil for the general benefit of the nation and to instruct the peasant class in improved agricultural methods.Construction work has already itarted at Guatimape, Durango, where the existing dam is being strengthened and raised. Located about 75 miles from Laredo, Texas, the dam will irrigate between 125,000 and 150,-000 acres. A huge earthen dam, some hundred feet in height will be built. The dam will store about 35,000,000,000 cubic feet of water. The land in the section is similar to that on the American side of the Rio Grande River near Laredo.
