Volume II- Xo. 39.ROXAN, MKeeps Right on This WinterThe winter weather has no ef-oct on the building of newhoutfs in Ror.an. except to urge others to huil.i. There has been a steady groi.ib 'Von: early in (he fall until the present time, and many new residences and business houses hove been added to the notrilw already built and Vr.'x upie.l. There is not an empty h---.se in Renan at the present time am! more are un'dcr contemplation. At this time there are seven residences under course of construction, and ea;h one of this number are for the immediate use of the builders, or are under ler.se before being started. Five of this number are being built by men who will move their families into same as aeon as completed, Two are under lease and the owner says he could fill more such houses as soon as they could be built.Just now W. S. Hollingsworth, Frank Meyer, Fred Rehwa'd, J, T. Warner and A. Sutherland are building or are just completing a new residence each, and Stanley Scearce has two now houses nearly completed, which are already leased.Crawford Clairmont are just finishing a three room office building and will move into one of the rooms some time this week. This is a building much j needed, as offices are impossible j to find in Rnnan at the present time.Aside from what are now' under way, there are many others j who are planning to build, and j present indications arc that there j will be no let up in the building of new places of business and new residences during the coming season. One of the most important under contemplation is a two story business house, with a lodge room above the store. This is also a feature much needed at the present time as there are several secret societies which would organize here at. once wore there a hall for them to meet in. The Masons, Odd Fellows, Knights of Pythias, Modern Woodmen and other fraternal societies have been urged to organize and will do so as soon as a hall can be secured. jThere is also a probability of j still another business house, as a gentleman has been here several days investigating the 'situation and has about determined to build a store room and open up a clothing and boot and shoo store. There must be a reason for all this activity, That reason is to be found in the fact that no other town on the reservation offers such inducements as to the future as Ronan. It is here that the railroad will first build to, and the probabilities are that it will make this tl-.e terminus for several years, and besides, it is around Ronan that such an immense body of irrigated land will be found, which insures good crops every year and makes this town the best situated of any in all Western Montana. Taken ell together, theie is an especially bright, future before Ronan, and another year will find double the population here as at the present time, and some are still more optimistic and place the growth during (he year 1!12 at over 2.000 people. As the Pioneer has said repeatedly, keep your eye on Ronan, and ii' you are not already the owner of one or more good city lots, get busy and buy one.from Washington under date of January 22, says:As a sweeping blow to (he anti-saloon movement over the country, an:! practically making i all dry states of the union into | wot territory, the supreme court today handed down a decision by which liquor may he shipped from cnc state into another, despite the state laws to the con-j trary.I Dry” states from today are jno longer dry states, and the prohibitionists have had their work of years destroyed by the decision today. It was held that no state has the right to prohibit the shipment of liquor into its territory. Kansas, cno of the leading prohibition states of the country, and one that has been the driest of all, will be among those effected. From the decision, agents of breweries may operate in any territory in the United States. Private orders for booze” may bo taken and the liquor shipped direct to the private individuals. The states may still retain their right to pass liquor laws in the matter of retail trading. Cities may still make laws forbidding the granting of liquor licenses, but the amber fluid” will flow freely from now on, and the thirst of thousands in the dry states may now be quenched. The decision is important to the brewers. It will probably mean that the output of the past year will be doubled during the coming year. Prohibitionists all over the country are downhearted.Reduction in PricesDr. T* much morlt; variety ofDuplceMajor Morgan has succeeded in securing a reduction in the prices of wood, posts, poles and logs, cut from the tribal land which will amount to quite sum to the farmers and people of wj]] uncj0l the reservation in general, when !£lt;atc reclt; taken in the aggregate.
