IS0Is1,BOBCA TO EON. Gone —Another of the old settler* passed away on Monday morning, after a lengthened period of illness, endared with y much fortitude. Mr, John Jnnkin, who 8 in consequence of there being so many , John Junkies, was popularly known as Red John, departed this life on Monday y Monday morning, at the age of 71 yea*s s and 8 months. He was born In the . j County of Fermanagh, Ireland, and came ! with hie parents to Canada when at the age of three years. For a short dme the family lived in Harvey and then moved to the J unkin settlement, in the 1st and 2nd concessions of Verulam. In ’54 Mr. Junkin launched oot on his own account, purchasing his lot on the 8th concession, and taking to wife Maria, daughter of Mr. Matthew Ingram. Mrs. Junkin died in 75, leaving a family of seven daughters and two sons, all cf whom are now living except the eldest daughter. In religion, Mr. J unkin was an adherent of the Methodist church, and in politics he was a libera1. For very many years he was a prominent figure in muoicipal affairs, frequently representing his township in the councils of the county. He was a brother of Mr. Irvine Junkin, who died about two years ago. The funeral on Tuesday was very largely attended, for though of !a*e years he had reared from public affairs, yet ©very man in the township knew John Jnnkm.Accident.—Mr. Henry Cidtgan, who is working in the Kennedy, Davis Milling Co.*s camp, Gdway, had a very narrow escipe from inataut death on Monday. He was filling a tree, and is its descent a l.tnb was broken tff and thrown back with greit violence. The end struck Cadigan on the head, bat fortunately sufficiently on the side for it to glance, insteau of crashing the skull. He was knocked down, and a piece of the scalp about the size of the hand was taken off hie head.
