The following notice is clipped from the Owen county items in the Warsaw Independent. Squiie Brown is an old Frankfort boy and the first Republican ever elected to office in Owen count):Wyatt Brown, of color, was tried by ’Squire Knox Brown, of Gratz, for carrying concealed weapons, and fined 5roo and sentenced to jail for thirty days. This was 'Squire Brown’s first case , and the people pronounce him a hummer. The case will be appealed, The negro had a quarrel w th a white man named W. M. Tool about a stall in a stable on Mrs. Adams' place, at Inverness, on Kentucky river. Tool struck Brown several times, when the latter drew a pistol and shot at Tool four times, one of the bullets going through his hat. Both combatants were arrested. Tool demanded a jury and was fined one cent and costs while the negro was tried by 'Squire Brown and given the above sentence., ’Squire Brown is the first and 'only Republican Magistrate ever i elected in Owen county, and he swears to dischar ,e his duty if it takes the skin off
