Miss Henrietta Vinton Davis will give an entertainment at Schoonmaker’s Hall, Wendesday evening, for beafs of A. M. Zon Church; tickets twenty-five cents. Miss Davis is a neice of Fred Douglas. The following is from the Newburgh Journal: ‘A large and appreciative audi ence assembled at Westminster Church last evening to hear Miss Henrietta Vinton Davie, the celebrated elocutionist. The lady showed fine literary attainments. The selections were both instructive and amus ing, and her power over an audience was demonstrated to be very great. ‘ Portia’s Plea for Mercy,’ from the ‘Merchant of Venice,’ ‘Entertaining Sister’s Beau,’ and ‘Mary, Queen of Scots,’ were fairly render ed. Miss Davis is certainly an honor to her race. Mr. T. T. Symons, the soloist, also gave some fine selections and exhibited great power as a vocalist.”
