Wo noticed some lime since that the Rev. Gideon Blackburn had resigned the Presidency of Centre ICollege, Kentucky. This gentlemen is favorably | known in this place, as well as other parts of the State; and we doubt not hut his reasons for withdrawing from the institution will afford interest to many of our readers, which we give below, as contained in a letter to a friend of this place:'• 1 have resigned the charge of Centre College. It is now in hands that wish to make it a pirty sectarian thing under Princeton influence. To tiiis measure I could never submit; and, therefore, resigned on the 28th October. The reasons of this course lie in the following facts:1. The unprecedented and inquisitorial course pursued by the Synod of Kentucky at their lato sessions at Frankfort.2. The measures pursued by that body, in relation to n Theological Seminary—preventing other Synods from joining in that work on equal terras, and thereby meterinlly affecting the interests of Centre College.3. The entire destitution of apparatus to assist the faculty in the discharge of their duty.4. The neglect of the Board of 'Trustees towards the public and private exercises of the College.5. The embarrassed state of the fund#, arising from the fuilure of the Synod to comply with their contracts with the Trustees.G. The intrigueins, ambitions and vindictive spirit manifested towards the President, by a part of the Board and their partisans.” 1Mr Blnrkhurn observes that he w ishes the southern people to know the state of tilings, nnd not he deceived; for he is fully convinced tlut the institution muni go down.
