I Sensational Damage Suit,i A case with many sensational fea-! tures was tried yesterday in the districtcourt, and a verdict is expected to be announced this morning. Airs. Carrie Klihdt had sued Matthias Detlefs for j $1,000 on account of alleged slander. Little: Betty represented Airs. Klindt | and \V. H. Wilson and W. M. Chamberlin conducted Mr. Detlefs’ defense. Airs. Klindt alleges that Mr. Detlefs applied very vile epithets to her, and made statements to others, which tended to destroy her character as a virtuous woman. Mr. Detlefs entered a general [denial. Both the IClindts and the Detlefs live near the corner of Fourth and Marquette streets. The story of what was brought out in evidence was ably told in the arguments of attorneys. Victor Littig and H. B. Betty stated that their client. Airs. Klindt, had gone over to the Detlefs’ home one day and had been reviled and called all manner of bad names- by Air. Detlefs, who had also, it was asserted, intimated to others that Airs. Klindt was not as good as I she might be. Air, Detlefs had been arrested and fined under the ordinance for disturbing the peace by using such j language on the occasion mentioned, but Airs. Klindt ought not to have her reputation besmirched and deserved a ! vindication and money consideration at j the hands of the jury.
