Greenbrier County Grand Jury Returns No True Bills Against Four Men Or Any Officers JURY TAMPERING CHARGE IS MADE Brother Of Slain Con stable Indicted On One Count By The Associated Press. Lewisburg, Jan, 23.—The Greenbrier county grand jury re fused today to return indictments against four men who had been charged with murder in the lynching of two negroes here December 10. Upon motion of Prosecuting Attorney James H. White, the four men, Earl, Pete, and Jack Legg, brothers, and X. Y. McClung were ordered dis charged from custody by Judge Summers H. Sharp. An indictment was returned by the grand jury charging Dr. W. E. Myles, of White Sulphur Springs, with unlawfully procur ing two prospective jurors to be summoned for grand jury duty “with intent that said jurors should be biased in their conduct as such jurors.” Brother of Constable Dr. Myles is a brother of Con stable Joseph H. Myles, one of two men for whose slaying Tom Jackson and George Banks, Negroes, were awaiting trial when they were taken from the county jail here by a mob of several score armed men and hanged, to the crossarms of a telephone pole. The grand jury also refused to return indictments charging mistreatment by officers of any of the men held in the lynch ing. White said the grand jury investigated reports of mis treatment of the four men, all of whom appeared before it. Constable Myles and his com panion, Jack Brown, were slain at Leslie, near Rainelle, after they attempted to quiet revelry at a negro dance. Jackson and Banks were in dicted for murder. The indict ment against Dr. Myles follow ed instructions yesterday by Judge Sharp to investigate an in cident in filling two vacancies on the grand jury.
