New Conservation Program To Be Explained In Mid-JanuaryThe new 1974 Rural Environmental Conservation Program (RECP) will be explained at a mid-January regional conference of top officials of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) of the 9 West Central states.Raymond W. Craft, ASCS County Executive Director said tliis regional meeting is a follow-up to the reeentUSDA announcement of the 1974 RECP operation and funding figures.Mr. Craft said: “This new $90 million RECP program is one from which all Black Hawk county residents can benefit. While cost sharing under both annual and longterm agreements is authorized in the RECP, there is an increased emphasis on tree planting.”Mr. Raymond Craft indicated he expects to have the full program details available shortly following this regional meeting. He advised Black Hawk county residents to watch for the detailed ; program announcement, and then those eligible should contact the county ASCS office in order to apply for conservation cost-sharing. ASCS will administer the cost-share agreements through its farmer-elected committee system, in close cooperation with other agencies of USDA.
