11A C Champs Meet Waterloo in IWU GameCenters Lead Both Teams as PointGettersNorthern State Teachers college of DeKalb, IIAC champs, bowed to the Titans Tuesday night, Jan. 22. The score was 47-41. Wesleyan led at the half by a slim margin of 24-21.If you recall, this is the second successive sport that the IIAC champs have been on the short end against the Green and White. Homecoming’s football crowd saw DeKalb defeated 14-0.The game Tuesday night was not quite as one-sided as the pigskin tussle. It was a see-saw battle all the way.Hank Bennett of IWU and Dave Swan of the Teachers seemed to have a scoring duel. Both centers led their teams as point getters—Bennett tallied 20 points with Swan close behind at 18 markers.DeKalb’s other scoring was evenly divided; however, the Titans depended on two other men | to pull up the slack.Jim Herold hit 11 counters against his nearby townspeople, and Jim Hershbarger added 10 more to the score and his season’s total.Respective guards for the two teams turned in good games. JohmHoffman, J. C. Moore, and Jerry Bradley worked the ball for the Titans.Bad Night Plus Good Opponent Equal IWU DefeatThe U. S. Army landed at Memorial gym in the form of the Chanute field basketball squad Friday night, Jan. 18, and pulled a marine trick. They took the situation well in hand. At the half, the flyers led 22 to 7, and kept hitting to win 55-36.Chanute displayed a cool bunch of bucketmen that handled themselves in a lacadaisical but efficient manner. The flyers were content with taking long shots— Forward Alexander tallied 18 points from the field, mostly longs, to lead the Army scoring.Wesleyan seemed to be having a bad night. The Green and White players were not up to their capabilities. This, coupled with the fact that Chanute is far from a school team, spelled the Titan defeat.Still there was a bright spot in the Titan camp—that being lanky Hank Bennett who hit ten markers before fouling out. It was the first time Hank had ever left a game via that route—high school included.BULLETIN lThe beginning of the girls’ intramural basketball tournament has been delayed.
