CITIZEN JOSHUA ASHLEYIs Accused of Peonage by HisFarm Hands.Columbia* Jan. 22.—The Federalgrand jury here has indicted “Citizen Joshua \\\ Ashley, a wealthy Anderson county farmer and member of the legislature now in session, of peonage in holding four negro farmhands in involuntary servitude onhis Farm in Anderson county. The indictment, carrying twenty counts, alleges various phases of peonage* charging that Ashley claimed he held the negroes to work out indebtedness due him and clue John MeGaha, deceased, and Louise McGuha, his kinsmen. The four negroes, claimed to be held us peons, are: Will Davis, John Davis* George Johnson and Sam Poole.
