F, R. Blatch, vicar of to ^ Homerton, calling attention to the circumstances of v Mary Ann Cliarsley, late night nurse at the infirmary.^ The committee had’given the ease of Mary Ann av t Cliarsley tlieir most careful consideration, and while qj ■.' the guardians were-not prepared to adopt their ro-a commendation that a superannuation allowanceG should be given to her, still they thought that uiiderlt all the circiunstaiices. the guardians would not be re-50 unwilling to award Mary Ann Cliarsley the sum of tli d £25, payable in monthly instalments, and they, th y recommended the same, to the guardians accord-, iir w ingly, and that application be made to the Local lai Government Board for their sanction thereto. laiMr. Fradd supported the recommendation,' but thBIr. Kemp opposed it, and he said he did so because tohe was convinced that the circumstances of the case alldid not merit. it. In a period of great commercial hadepression, it was necessary that strict economy seshouldbethe watchword of the guardians. He wished it to be understood that ho did. not express thatopinion because of the approaching election, but cvbecause he was thoroughly convinced that the Board cewould be acting wrongly in adopting the recommeii- iirdation. . wi? Mr. Steel thought that the Board might as well ceaward the gratuity as to give out relief, iin applica- tn3* tion for which must inevitably follow a refusal.
