F, R. Blateh, vicar of Homerton, calling attention to the circumstances of Mary Ann Charsley, late night nurse at the infirmary. The committee had' given the case of Mary Ann Charsley their most careful consideration, and while q] the guardians were-not prepared to adopt their recommendation that a superannuation allowance should be given to her, still they thought that uiider all the circumstances. the guardians would not be ro unwilling to award Mary Ann-Charsley the .'Sum of th £25, payable in monthly instalments, and they th recommended the same, to the guardians accord-, in ingly, and that application be made to the Local la Government Board for their sanction thereto. laMr. Fradd supported the recommendation, * but th Mr. Kemp opposed it, and lie said he did so because to he was convinced that the circumstances of the case al did not merit it. In a period of great commercial hi depression, it was necessary that strict economy se shouldbethe watchword of the guardians. He wished it to be understood that be did. not express that opinion because of the approaching election, but cv because he was thoroughly convinced that the Board cc would be acting wrongly in adopting the recommeii- in dation. . wMr. Steel thought that the Board might as well ce award the gratuity as to give out relief, an applica- tr tion for which must inevitably follow a refusal. He pr was given to understand that Charsley was a most te efficient and well-conducted nurse; • thMessrs. Greenwood and E. Jones opposed it, and tli upon the .clbrk stating that, before the guardians could adopt the recommendation, it would bo neces- hi sary to rescind the former resolution as to a pension to Charsley, Dr. Millar gave notice to rescind, and the la subject dropped. • . kiWi
