Gordon, the Board directed a communication to he sent to the district medical officers asking them to/recommend only very urgent cases for removal to the' infirmary, in. consequence of the crowded state of the establishment. The Infirmary Committee reported that they had received a letter from the Rev. F, R. Blafcch, vicar of Homerton, calling attention to the circumstances of Mary Ann Cliarsley, late night mtrse at the infirmary. The committee had' given the case of Mary Ann Cliarsley their most careful consideration, and while the guardians were-not prepared to adopt their recommendation that a superannuation allowance should be given to her, still they thought that under all the circumstances. the guardians would not be unwilling to award Mary Anri-Cliarsley the sum of £25, payable in monthly instalments, and they recommended the same, to the guardians accordingly, and that application be made to the Local G overnment Board for their sanction thereto,Mr. Fradd supported the recommendation,' but BIr. Kemp opposed it, and he said lie did so because he was convinced that the circumstances of the case did not merit it. In a period of great commercial depression, it was necessary that strict economy shouldbethe watchword of the guardians. He wished it to be understood that ho did. not express that opinion because of the approaching election, but because he was thoroughly convinced that the Board would be acting wrongly in adopting the recommendation.•BIr. Steel thought that the Board might as well award the gratuity as to give out relief, an application for which must inevitably follow a refusal. He was given to understand that Cliarsley was a most efficient and weli-condueted nurse; •Blessrs. Greenwood and E. Jones opposed it, and upon the .clbrk stating that, before the guardians could adopt the recommendation, it would Bo necessary to rescind the former resolution as to a pension to Cliarsley, Dr. Blillar gave notice to rescind, and the subject dropped. . - •The Iufirn of las757, ivear.TheHatclhad-bof the suffer to peiTheavail*!CheqiTheropor the cc the Cimprc lain a laritythe gito tliallegehad 1servic-'BIr.Mr,evideicemeliriteriwishcemeitractspari si tery, the cl time j Mr liad n Mr, lain 'lt; know-A SATISFACTORY RETORT,mi*« T i * _ 1 a *11.. .wereparipe
