Death of Mrs. Sarah HargisMrs. Sarah Catherine Moody Hargis, third child of Buckner, and Margaret Moody, was born in Jefferson County, Kentucky, March 29, 1831 and died Jan. 11, 1920. The funeral was held Tuesday, Jan, 13, at Fletcher Chapel.Mrs. Hargis was the oldest settler of Pierson Township. She is survived by one child, George Hargis; one brother, Noah Moody, of Pendleton, Ky.; nine grand children and nine great grand children.Her mother died when she was but 8 years old and not long after the little girl assumed the cares of the household. She continued this work in her father’s home during most of her girlhood and her entire schooling amounted to but six months. However, she learned to read well and being intensely interested in public affairs she read all she could gather of the dramatic events of the country’s history preceding the Civil War. This interest in the nation’s welfare was never lost.At the age of 20 Miss Moody was married to Isaac M. Hargis, who had recently come from Virginia to Kentucky. To this union were born six children.
