BUILDING RECORDAdvancement In Business and Resi- f dence Distriots—Houses Rented before Completion.El Centro Is maintaining the remarkable record (or growth which has been one o( its characteristics since the town was started. In all parts of town improvements are in progress. Cottages are started and lind 1 renters or purchasers before they are completed. Two substantial business blocks—one to be one of the finest in Imperial Valley—are now in progress. and next week will bring about the starting of another. Ground has been broken for a large cold storage plant and new creamery: railroadgangs are extending the railroad facilities here on a large scale: new in-dusti*es are expanding even more rapidly than their managers had | thought possible, and on all hands there is a spirit of optimism. \Among the developments of the week | has been the building operations of F. G. Pickering, who comes from Long Beach. He owns two lots at the southwest corner of Seventh and Commercial streets, and thereon will erect five cottages, two of which will have frontage 011 Seventh street, and three on Commercial street. The material used for the Fifth and Main street frontages is granite-faced artificial stone, trimmed in white stone, and the combi-1 nation is onlt;? which presents great contrast with the brick buildings along the main business street. It is probable that a seventy-five foot frontage 011 Fifth street, just to the north ■if the new bank building will be»covered by a new building of similar design, this spring. The walls of the Taylor building, located on the south side of Main street. 1 directly west of and adjoining thlt;* blackinton block, will be completed today.
