OBITUARYJonathan Myers died at about 12 o'clock m. Monday, the 17th mat, at his residence m LaKue, aged 67 years. His illness was short—about four days, and, as I was not able to be out, 1 did not get to see him. Dr. Shira was his phy sician 1 understand that the trouble originated in a defective tooth.Lately he made a visit to his son in Danville, 111, from where he returned in a few weeks, and as usual has been feeding his stock on the farm and attending to his affairs since. Ho was a very industrious man, and was prudent and economical in ali his trip through life, honest, truthful and reliable, human and kind, and an excellent member of society, lie was a kind parent and careful m rearing his family, which was large, he having seven sons living, and three daughters, one dead, though she lived to be middle aged He commenced poor in an early day here, and was successful m accumulating quite an estate by hard work and economy. At one time he owned about 600 acres of land in this township, bul he has given his children a good deal as they grew up, and now he still leaves quite an estate. lie did not make his money by grinding anybody—he was an honest manMr. Myers’ wife, an excellent woman, died very suddenly and unexpectedly several years ago. 1 was sent for in the night and when I got to her bedside I found her dead. If the children left behind do not make a successful trip through life, no blame can be attached to pareutal care in their youth.Mr. and Mrs Myers were both creditable members of the Baptist church, and the church wilt now miss .Jonathan Myers, for be was a regular attendant and in the seat he occupied promptly on time. This seat is now vacated, a valuable member has disappeared forever, and his footsteps wiii never again be heard passing along the aisle, nor his voice be heard by the congregation with which he has so often assem bled.I must not allow this occasion to pass without paying* tribute to the memory of one who was among my earliest friends and patrons here, one in whom I placed great •onhdence. The chain of friendship between us was never disturbed m the least. 1 was his family physician for thirty years, and 1 am sorry that I was not able to see him in lus last illnessJonathan Myers will be missed by his children and by the community, and I haveno doubt but that his sudden death has caused general sorrow here. 1 need not re peat the story of his life, his acquaintances are familiar with It. I only wish to unite with rlt; lathes and friends in the grief with w hich they mourn lus death. On Wednesday, the 19th, at it o’clock, the largest funeril assemblage that ever gathered in Laliue, crowded the church to its utmost capacity and a great many could not get in.
