STONE ROSES/Second Coming(Geffen).Britain's Stone Roses are back with their second album, and their first in six years.-Songs range from the unabashed pop of Ten Storey Love Song and Good Times to the loose jamming of Daybreak. It's a diverse sounding album, innovatively retro: it features strong soul, boogie and funk elements. Lyrically, the album is optimistic, hopeful, often spiritual.*: It is tarnished slightly by a couple of throwaway tracks, but for the most part it offers strong writing, eclectic influences, a fantastic rhythm section and stellar guitar playing.Second Coming is 75 minutes long, and winds up with a quirky, six-minute cluttered symphony as a hidden track. (Go figure that something is hidden, with 99 tracks registering on your CD.player and only 12 listed on the disc.) 1/2John LyonsTHE MELVIN S/S toner Witch (Atlantic).
