Putnam County Counseling Service Celebrates First Anniversary With Service Day1974 President Mrs. Charles Rector, Jr.Initial Board Inks Contract One Year AgoToday is a day of reviewing the past and looking ahead to the future as the Putnam County Counseling Service celebrates its first birthday with today being set aside as Service Day.The Putnam CountyCounseling Service Day offers everyone in the county an opportunity to become acquainted with the services of the Counseling Center.The Rev. Elgin Smith, the first president of the board of directors, will explain how the idea for the center began and how it became a reality, and Mrs. Bessie Rector, the 1974 president, will tell of its aspirations for the future.The Rev. Edward Alley, from the Indiana Counseling and Pastoral Care Center,Inc. of Indianapolis, will also be present to discuss the availability of the counseling services with all interested persons.Service Day began with a noon luncheon at the First Christian Church, which houses the Putnam County Counseling Service, primarily for professional people in related areas of counseling responsibility.Tonight’s informative session beginning at 7:30 p.m. will be open to all county residents.The Putnam County Counseling Service, an affiliate of The Indiana Counseling and Pastoral Care Center, Inc. in Indianapolis, is an affiliated, not-for-profit, community and church related clinic operating under local organization and representation with design toward bringing to our community the nationally accredited counseling services of the Indianapolis center. All professional counseling staff for the local center is directly provided by the Indianapolis Center.The capital city center is an interdenominational, Indiana not-for-profit corporation housed in local church facilities in Indianapolis. Established in 1958, the Center’s program includes:• counseling services to the metropolitan Indianapolis community with additional outreach through Service Centers to local communities in all of central Indiana.• statewide training in pastoral care and counseling for pastors in all denominations and faiths.•intensive professional training in counseling for clergy and mental health professionals from throughout Indiana.Accredited by the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, the Center’s administrative leadership is pro-9First President Rev. Elgin Smithvided by staff which is certified by The American Association of Pastoral Counselors and The American Association of Marriage and Family Counselors.Its counselors are clergy and other mental health professionals who have training and specialized skills in individual, marital, family, group and other specialized counseling.Its elected Board of Directors is made up of ministers, mental health professionals, medical doctors, lawyers and businessmen from the local area.The Center makes available three types of professional counseling services to persons in our community:• Individual, family, marital and group counseling by a professional counselor.• Emotional health diagnosis, consultation, or referral by a professional counselor.• Marriage Enrichment and Family Life seminars are available upon request of church groups, community organizations or an assembling of interested but organizationally unrelated individuals.All counseling and seminar sessions are conducted in the local clinic at the First Christian Church.Fees for counseling services at the Center are based on Please tum to page 2, col. 4Service Counselor Rev.
