Lt. A. Butcher | Builds Morale Of DEML MenLT. ALJAH BLT'JHER' Eiiachuca since July, 1942. having ‘ become an officer directly from civilian life. Frior to his entry into 1 the service he had held a reserve commission as second lieutenant since 1932 when he was graduated from Wilberforce university, where he was a member of the R.O.T.C.In civilian life he was district manager for the Atlanta Life Insurance company in Selma. Ala. I.t. Butcher is a devoted family man , and recently made a furlough trip to Selma to see his wife, the former, i Miss Margaret Boysaw. and his’ three sons, aged seven, four and 1 one-half and- two years. 1Upon his return to the detachment, Lt. Butcher found his organization running as smoothly as when he had left it under the su-1 pervision of 2nd Lt. Castine A. Davis, assistant detachment com-* mander. Modestly Lt. Butcher disclaims credit for the smooth coordi--; nation of his unit, declaring that in • ' spite of its unusual flexibility his is.just an ex~eptional group of men.1 The important job that he does in■ coordinating the vas.tly lieterogen-1! eous group—some sick, some lameand awaiting discharges, headquar-’ ters clerks and specialists in entertainment, photography and other;■ fields—is all in the day's work and■ he sees nothing unusual in the fact that he does a good job of it.Much of the high morale t Hhat exists among men of Post t : Headquarters Detachment, £ DEML, is directly attributable ! to Lt.
