W.re the Director Wilmet Authorized Toe.ay that night it that m his is beenSelect His Own Men.ORGANIZATION NEEDS MONitYFund Subscribed Last Year Never Collected and No Part of It Was Ever Paid To the Band.The Monroe Military band will make another effort at reorganization and there is confidence that the repeated efforts along this line will now succeed.A meeting of members of the band was held Friday evening to take final action, either disposing of the band property or to make a last effort to revive the organization. This will all depend upon the willingness of business men and others to pay the subscriptions signed to a band fund last season. It appears that none of this money has been collected.The conditions upon which this fund of $500 was raised required the band to organize and give twelve concerts. The band organized and secured the services of L J. Wilmet for director and four concerts were given. The weather interferred, none of the money was paid over and on the face of other discouragements the musicians lost interest. The organization is now stranded and in a bad way generally.Colin W. Wright has been selected to represent the band before the business men’s association to see what can be done in the way of turning the money subscribed over to the band. He was invited to attend the meeting and told the musicians that he was satisfied that the people who subscribed the money did so fully expecting to pay it, and are willing to pay the share of it that has been earned and to let the balance be held for future lt;ncouragement for the band. The fact that no payment had been made he did not consider any fault of the people who subscriber! but instead the parties who raised the money had neglected and failed to collect it or make any application to the subscribers to pay the money. He said he was satisfied that the people of the4city want a band and want the institutions of the town to patronize the band.Some fault was found because the band was not engaged for the fair, the fair society giving it out that the music had been engaged before the band was organized but it was stated by those who claimed to be in a position to know that the music was not engaged until three weeks before the fair.There were fifteen band men present and the sentiment was largely against disbanding. Mr. Wilmet was instructed to pick his men and the musicians agreed to give him their best support and do everything possible to give the city a band.The band has some good property, being fixed to fit out a band of thirty-five pieces with practically new uniforms.in the
