The Grip is Epidemic and the Doctors u ndertakers are Busy. Macuras, N. ¥., Jan. 19.—There is a great deal of sickness in this vicinity. Among the number are Will Pierce, Mrs. Rogers and Doc Allen and wife. Oren Murphy and his wife are down with the grip. In Franklinville there are 137 cases of the grip. Machias un dertakers went down to take care of twe funerals last week. The doctors are more than busy. Mrs. Dimazick, the primary teacher who has been sick the past two weeks, is expected to resume her duties next Monday. Misa Winnie Corthel has been teaching in her place. The meat market has changed hands again. It is run now by ddr. Leland Very in the Gould block. The friends of Colonel Holbroke are glad to see him able to ride out again after his illness of so many months. Warren Franklin is moving back to town. In spite of the cold weather the ice on the lake was too thin to hold horses. Two of them broke through in one day. A very pleasant family gathering was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Blackman last week. Quite a number of prope from out of town attended. Nations ate in order now. The old people at the junction tendered v. Gwynn one Thursday night, which netted $26, and there was one held for Rev. Field, of the Christian church, which netted $70. All are glad that v. Field is able to resume his minis tral duties. A number of Machias people went to Laidlaw last week to attend the wed ding of Kate D. Wright, only daughter of Oren Wright, to Charles T. Smith. Many beautiful presents were given the young couple. Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Butten have re turned from a visit to Mrs. Butter's par ente at Aliegany.
