They quit their, jobs only = for personal real ‘sons . . They're Tee Chief well paid in comparison with cities of like size, but they work longer hours .. All our men are hired first for character, common sense or prac tical ability, ages range from 33 up, average 40 years old .. One year’s residence is required by law we ask five, ten, fifteen. Our newest rookie has two year's service, oldest man has ten years... Every man sees FBI school, area training schools, var ious universities’ training material is available. We're a small force in number, “but we can easily get 15 to 20 imen in a real emergency ... Such was when a murderer broke jail in Silver City, headed here... Two ‘patrol cars have cleaned up gang possibilities, prowling, that were ‘apparent in 1953 with one car . Average a dozen drunks a month, ,two or more drunken drivers ‘one teenage runaway... try to snip family troubles in the bud... Prevention pays better than ar rests, jail or fines. Speeders worry us... Running stop signs is almost as bad... a bad Deming habit... But they know we're on the job... patrol ling constantly. The people of Deming are behind tus wholeheartedly, they want good law enforcement .. . Any so-called racero troube, with 400 staying tthrough after height of the sea son, about 2,300, amounts to a few drunks just like the rest of four population .. . They're people who come here to work . . . Also ,their employers load them into ,pickups and head for the farm, ‘first sign of too much liquor. Women just aren't molested in consideration by the State Engin eer on that date, being on or about the 6th day of February, 1956, $. E. REYNOLDS, 1-18-31 State Engineer. Deming . . Our streets are safe summer school activities that keep are the “City of Churches.” .. . We have little in the way of plan ned social or municipal recreation or centers... We have a good many adults working wn young people... Our Deming Athletic Club, for instance. Law enforcement anywhere is a headache . . but it’s the one we ‘choose above all others... H they'd only quit speeding and run ning stop signs.
