A Small Settlers Exhibition for People 15 Miles Around. (Prom oa Correspondent) The Deeside and = Bunkers Hill ranches of the Jit 1 Agricultural society held jointly a market show on the Ist Inst, at Farm, the proper ty of Mr. 8. Dolly Mr. HW. Ramsden, of Bellfield, was the leading spirit in getting up the show and displayed a great deal of iterest in making the necessary ar rangements. It was purely a small ettlers show, open to all within fif teen miles radius. Th object was to give the small settlers an idea of preparing exhibits for a show and to stimulate them in preparing for the big Lower Trelawny Agricultural Show which was under contempla tion prior to the November hurricane of 1912 and which we are still hop ing to carry through at some future rate. The exhibits In the different losses with very few exceptions were hot as many as they might have been ‘any who were in a position to ex hibit and did not, expressed their regret at the end when they saw those who had earned prizes amply ‘awarded for their care and pains. The competition might have been keener had the Bunkers Hill Branch taken a more lively interest in the matter We are, however, satisfied with the measure of success so far attained considering that this is the het attempt at holding a joint mar ket show here. The effort in this di rection seemed to have had the de ired effect in stimulating the small settlers as many are anxious to know when next another of the kind will be held. _——— In the absence of the Hon. G . wen, ML.C., who could not make it possible to attend, the show was declared open by Mr. 7. F. Thompson of lope, at the request of Mr. BE. L. Harrison, Agricultural Instructor for Lower Trelawny and St. James. Mr Thompson spoke encouragingly to all present, pointing out the great possi bilities that lie in the soil and how these can be brought out by cultivat ing in a proper and systematic way as well as the benefits to be derived from a show of the kind. Three hearty cheers were then given for the speaker at the close of his address. Mr. Thompson being interested in the cassava industry kindly consented to judge the exhibits in this class. The competition was rather keen and not only were the first and sec ond prizes awarded but the judge also kindly gave two other special prizes for the selection of cassava tribers. There was a good display of many roots in so much that special prizes were again offered in this class. The class of fowls exhibited was also good.
