By Sheila Runions Banner Staff enders should be well aware of Bill Kroeger, a man who lves in Rivers and who until five years ago, operated Kroeger Bros. Electric in this area. An ad in the Dec. 14, 2012 Rivers Banner announced his re tirement, effective Dec. 31. The ad said, “It has been a pleasure working in the area, in and out of most of the residences and businesses over the 32 years. Dealing with the friendly faces seemed more like a social outing rather than the work it was. Retirement of this business will allow me more time to spend on the expansion of Home Away Lodge in the spring and in the future. Thank you so much for your patronage and the memories.” Effective tomorrow, Jan. 20, Bill offi cially retires from 30 years of employment with Department of National Defence. In those three decades he has carpooled to Shilo’s base with Ken Kingdon, Jim Irvine, John Irwin, Terry Mayer and Dennis Wilcox, logging more than 1.5 million kilometres of accident-free driv ing. While he has always been an electri cian on base, the last 12 years he has been one of four crew chief managers. “T enjoyed most of my time there and made lots of friends from Newfoundland to British Columbia. I am now looking forward to re-opening B. Kroeger Elec tric with help from my brother, Garry. Kroeger Bros. Electric was so incredibly busy; there was always a call to make when I got home after all day in Shilo. I would get in the door, make supper and if not dealing with a broken down furnace, there’d be a call for Home Away Lodge. I needed to cut down the home electrical calls a bit.” Now that he has retired from long days at Shilo and considering the workload he once enjoyed with Kroeger Bros., he has decided to remain somewhat active in his chosen career. “I don’t want to kill myself because I am semi-retired and Garry (lives in Brandon) retired this time last year, so he has extra time as well. We'll do mostly residential wiring because Garry won't always be available; I can handle most electrical jobs myself. When it comes to commercial, I would need myself and another full-time; some commercial I could do myself, but I would have to determine the size of the job.” The brothers will specialize in 100 and 200 amp service changes and are offer ing “the most reasonable rates in town.” Bill encourages you to contact him at 204-328-5338 if you require a journey man electrician and electrical contractor. Keep in mind he is semi-retired, so he is planning “more ice fishing, hockey, golf, boating, more holidays, family time, violin, guitar and everything fun!
