Maybe there's going to be a more serious investigation into the haunt ing puzzle of UFO's — “flying Batcers. A Washington newspaper zol uaanist, “Roscoe Drummond, thinks one in brewing, “AL Vast,” writes Drummond, “a thorough, scientific, open-minded investigation is being undertaken in a too-long delayed effort to get at the facts.” He feels there has not been an adequate, objective inquiry into the mystery of UFO's and that the new investigation should go far toward resolving the mystery. As Drummond reports it, the De fense Department is taking the major part of the probe out of the hands of the Air Force (which Drummond thinks has long been dis missing the UFO's too lightly) and is contracting with the University of Colorado to carry out a truly scien tific study and evaluation of all the information obtainable. “YH is significant, Drummond says, “that some members of the scientific community who have been intimidated from interesting them selves in the UFO pnevse for fear of guilt by association with the extreme unknown, are beginning to show themselves, somewhat more open minded. At least 100 physical and social scientists are being recruited in the Colorado study. The columnist finds it important, also, that Dr. J. Allen Hynek, direa tor of the Lindheimer astronomical ryesenven center and chairman of the Northwestern University astronomy department, is now supporting the new investigation. ‘The significance of Ute istant Dr. Hynek has in the past almost invariably discounted and discredited the varied reports of UNO sightings. Hynek now says he 's convinced that “there is something going on up there and that “there is some thing that needs to be explained about the very widespread and of ten cogent and articulate reports of UFO's. All this means, in Drummond's opinion, that the basic assumption thhat “flying saucers are myths or natural phenomena has to be altered, 80 if you see a UFO, dont hesi tate to deport it out of fear of being laughed at. You may really have “seen something up there.”
