ft* Cougars played havoc wtth national ratings last week as they upeet the Bradley Braves, thesecond ranked team In the nation, 60-59, and the Sl Louis BU11-kens, ranked fourteenth, 75-67.A thriller to the last second, the Bradley game saw Jim Lemmon emerge as the hero when he tossed in a free throw to put the Cougars ahead with 33 seconds remaining In the game.The Braves took advantageof a cold Cougar five in the opening minutes of the game to outscore the Big Red 10-5 and went on to establish a ten-point half-time lead.The big gun for the Braves in the first half was Tim Rohlnson, with 22 points. Tommy Thompson, Gary Phillips and Ted Luck-enbill led the Cougars in first half scoring, but the Big Red couldn't seem to find the range.Coach Guy Lewis switdled his defense the second half to man-to-man to stop the Robinsonthreat and the Big Red outscoredthe Braves 12-6 In the first six minutes.The crowd came to their feet when Lemmon came off the bench to start a rally with eight minutes to go. Lemmon stole a pass and went all the way for the two points and Luckenbill followed with a lay up to tie the score at 58-58.Both teams then tied up the score again with a free toss apiece and with five minutes remaining the Cougars went into afreeze.With 33 seconds Lemmon saw his chance and went in for a layup and was fouled in the process. It was his second freetiirow that spelled defeat for thehigh-ranked Braves.Against the Billikens the Cougars got off to a fast start to take command of the game with a 13-point half-time lead.But a cold spell at the beginning of the second half saw St Louis pull within seven, eight,then six points of the UH lead.This time It was TommyThompson who came In me lineup to get the Cougar t steamed up. With 10:13 left In game theBllll-kene turned cold and went five minutes without scoring.But the Cougars kept up theiraggressiveness as Dick Thurman hit a jump shot in the last 13 seconds to give the Big Red their second straight upset over a nationally ranked team.Luckenbill was the high-point man against St. Louis with 28fish with two at one dme, usually using one white and one black.
