tNUMBER 3.MRS. MARY BOTKIN OF DENVER DIESMrs. Mary Botkin was born Sept. 11, 1857 in Boonville, Owsley county, Kentucky, the daughter of George and Eliza Gabbard.She departed this life at the age of 74 years and 4 months at 1:43 Friday January 13, 1933 having been ill sinceTuesday morning.Her mother passed away w’hen she was only eight years of age.On January 18, 1880 she was united in marriage with John Wesley Botkin in Kentucky and came to reside in Denver, 111. Dec. 1901. Nine children were born to this happy union, of whom one daughter, Rachel Young,of West Point, 111. died three yearsago.At the age of eighteen she gave her heart to Christ in a Missionary Baptist church and the last four and one-half years had been a member of the Assembly of God church, West Point, 111 .Surviving her are five daughters, Mrs. Etta J. Denham of Bowen, Mrs. Mattie Sowder of Denver, Mrs. Kate Mabry of Denver, Mrs. Bertie Worrell of Colchester, and Mrs. Susie Walton of Denver, three sons, Will T. Botkin of Rouleau, Saskatchewan, Canada, George F. Botkin of Carthage and John M. Botkin of Denver. Two brothers, Jake Gabbard of Fairview, Kansas and Mike Gabbard of Berea, Kentucky, thirty-three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive her.Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Christian church at Denver conducted by Sister Lavera Long of Macomb, assisted by Rev. W. E. Wood of West Point. A large crowd was in attendance. Six grandsons acted as pall bearers. Burial was in St. Mary cemetery.The following lines were written by a friend:God takes our loved ones from this earthTo be with Him, He knows their worth He gives to us, He takes away,He knows it’s best they should not stay.To us it is a time of loss But we should count it just one cross, Of many we must learn to bear If we would gain that Home so fair.
