Organisations and individual home builders in Portland have been request ed by the secretary of Portland's “own your-home” campaign to make a de tailed submission of what they offer to the prospective home owners who are seeking the services of the “own your-home” bureau. “A questionnaire has been prepared and submitted to responsible opera tors,” says O.. H. Skotheim, executive secretary of the campaign. “This area has been made necessary by the large number of personal requests at the ‘campaten tungaiow for recommenda tions to responsible concerns who will be fin a position to deal directly with individuals who are anxious to pro ceed at an early date with the con struction of homes of their own. “So far about 406 people have re quested this and other information, showing the great neod of this or ganised civic enterprise to deal aus tomatically with Portland's housing problems and seek their solution on the broad basis of disinterested public service, according to the programme outlined by Mayor Baker. Contracts to He Approved. “When the data has been collected and classified it will be furnished through the campaign headquarters without any recommendatione as to the individual concerns offering their serv ices to construct and to sell home. The questionnaires require the sub mission of proper references and aree the character of past operations. The campaign management further re quires that contracts entered into with individual home builders will be sub mitted to the ‘own-your-home” cam paign management for ao approval. ec as to avoid any improper advantage being taken of individuals who are seeking the help of this organisation “All services on the part of the ‘own your-home’ bureau are adeolutely gratia, and the sole purpose of the campaign is to be of vite assistance to those who contemplate permanently affiliating themselves with this city as home owners” The scope of the investigation under way is indicated by the questionnaire prepared by Mr. Skotheim, which fol lows: Many Questions Asked. vaney man address and telephone numb er. Have you ever negotiated with a home builder or a real estate firm for the purchase of a home? Why did your negotiations fail to materialize? What line of work are you moven in, and are you reasonably cer tain of remaining in Portland? Payment Query Made. Would you be able to continue pay ments on the property if you moved away from Portland? Would you be willing to carry life insurance covering the amount of your indebtedness? What banking or other reference can you furnish? How soon would you want to build? Do you wish to be referred to firme having newly-built houses for sale? What section of the city do you pre fer in the event that you should wish to sell your present lot and build in some other section of the city? Do you wish to be referred to no re sponsible home builder to handle your building operation? “It is important that concerns con templating entering into the field of home building should adtmit a request for the questionnaire at the campaign or at their earliest opportunity, that a complete classification may be mare of Portland’s resources to properly handle the housing situation,” continues Mr. Skothelm “The fact that companies or individuals have failed to receive this questionnaire is not due to any discrimination.
