MEXICAN WAR VETERANIS CLAIMED BY DEATHMr. Jesse Crow Fought Both For and Against Stars and Stripes.Sunday morning death claimed a man who was probably this county’s only surviving Mexican war veteran. The man was Mr. Jesse Crow, living near Varnelfs, and an old man well known and highly respected in this county.Mr. Crow wras 83 years of age. He fought for the stars and stripes in fhe Mexican war; and when the civil war came on he enlisted in the Confederate army, and served the South, fighting against the flag he loved so well.In addition to being probably the only surviving Mexican war veteran in the county, Mr. Crow was probably the oldest settler in this county, having come here before the Indians were moved away. Crow valley, in the northern part of the county, derived its name from the deceased.Mr. Crow was popular among a wide circle of friends. This old veteran of two wars had a way. of making friends, and his death proved a severe blow to them. He is survived by his widow and five children.
