He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Bernhart, a worthy German family, who continued their residence at Schomberg until death. Here, with his parents Stanis lived until he was sixteen years of age. Being young, strong and ambitious, he left the land of his nativity to take up his abode ia a country where opportunities existed, whereby this ambitious spirit could be gratified. He came direct to Attica, arriving here a poor, penniless boy, but possessing what was better, a strong body, an honest heart and a willing mind. Young Bernhart soon after his arrival, began to work at the stone cutter’s trade, working at this trade, as an employe, for about four years. At the end of this time, by economic habits of living, he had saved suf-ficentfrom his earnings, to enable him to do contracting on a limited scale. His life has been an auspicious one, having been marked by a well graded series of success from the time he landed in Attica during the whole of his active life, which lasted up to a short time before his death.In 1858 he was married to Miss Christina Meitzler. To them ten children were born, eight girls and two boys, of whom seven children, one bo and six girls, still survive,Mr. Bernhart was always a prominent factor in all enterprises looking to the betterment of Attica, and much can be placed to his credit for the prosperous and thrifty condition of our city and its people. In him we lose one of our best citizens, and a man whose place will be hard to fill.The funeral will take place from the family residence Friday afternoon, at 2 o’clock, under the auspices of the Masonic lodge, of which he was a member, and the remains will be interred in the Riverside cemetery.The family nas the undivided sympathy of the entire community in their hour of grief.
