HUBBARD—The Lady Eagles registered two victories to improve their record to 7-3 and extend their current winning streak to four games. The locals collected wins over Struthers 47-27 and Brookfield 44-41. The Struthers contest could have been called the “Cara Hendrix Show,” as the junior forward collected 25 points and 23 rebounds to lead the lady Eagles. Her twin sister Carla collected nine points, while senior Lisa Abrutz collected six points. Missy Balash and Amy Madeline rounded out the Lady Eagles scoring as they collected five and two points respectively. AnnMarie Gelenese paced the Wildcats with nine points. On Monday evening the locals traveled to nearby Brookfield to take on the Lady Warriors. The slugfest contest began with the Warriors establishing an early 40 lead with 6:41 in the first frame. The Lady Eagles captured the lead for the first time when Cara Hendrix hit two free throws to give the locals a 10-9 advantage with 1:19 left. The first period ended with the locals up by a 14-9 advantage, but at in termission things were knotted at 23. The Lady Eagles took the lead for good at the 6:50 mark of third period when Cara Hendrix hit a five foot baseline jumper making the score 27-25 in favor of the locals. Brookfield cut the lead to two points, 41-39 with 2:09 left in the game, but another Hendrix field goal and a free throw by Jenny Currie with 1:36 left gave the Lady Eagles enough breathing room to capture a victory over their arch rivals. Once again Cara Hendrix took scoring honors with 20 points while Stacie Gon taruk collected 10. Amy Madeline added five, while Lisa Abrutz and Missy Balash added four more. Vee Kovach paced the Warriors with 12, while Andrea Smith and Julie Bray each collected eight points. Patsy Rich will continue as field and maintenance director while Steve Smith will be in charge of safety and equipment. The HCYL holds its meetings on the first Sunday of each month beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Council Chambers. The meetings are open to the public and include officers’ reports, directors’ reports, committee reports and both old and new business. The next meeting has been slated for Sunday, February 5 and will include a budget discussion and ratification amendments to the Little League Rules which were submitted in writing to the league officer prior to the February board meeting and the establishing registration, tryout, draft and opening day dates. Following meetings will be held on March 4; April 1; May 6; June 10; July 8; August 5; September 9; October 7; November 4 and December 2. Fund-raising projects for the HCYL include a candy sale, proceeds from the concession stands, ob taining of sponsors and an annual dance. SCUBA lessons will be held at the Community Pool for the second consecutive year beginning February 1, with eight sessions offered from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. each Wednesday evening. The sessions will consist of classroom work and pool instruction, taught by John Carr, scuba instructor at Youngstown State University, assisted by Joe Costick, owner of Brian Scott Scuba. Equipment is checked at the pool by Costick, Carr and Richard Cepin, aquatic director of the Community Pool.
