By Laura Hildabrandt Coe swimmers started 1984 off the bang. The women won 96-14, ile the men finished with a score of 37. The women’s team set four po records last Saturday against Jas College. Brigette Bergeman, a fshman, set a new record in the 200 rd IM and the 200 yard breast ake, with times of 2:22:28 and 5.84. She was also part of the 400 ‘d freestyle relay that set a record taking time at 1:46:11. The other s on the relay were Laura Idebrant, Jamie Whittemore and Kim Lempe. The fourth school record to be shattered was in the 200 yard butterfly, by Lynne Yarde with a time of 1:05:01. Other results of the women’s team consisted of first places in the medley relay (Laura Ege, Lynn Teesch, Lynne Yarde and Kim Russ), 1000 free (Selena Collett), 200 free (J. Whitte more), 50 free (L. Hildebrandt), 1 meter diving (Colleen Culp), 100 free (J. Whittemore), 100 backstroke (L. Hildebrandt), 500 free (S. Collett), and 3 meter diving (C. Culp). The men’s team was impressive in many of their races. Finishing first in the medley relay was the team of Mike Horton, Scott Colquhoun, Tom Mason and Frank Hansen. The men also took first in the 1000 free (Steve Johnson), 200 free (Quin Brewer), 200 IM (Kevin Novreske), 200 fly (T. Mason), 100 free (K. Novreske), 500 free (S. Johnson),and the free relay (Q. Brewer, Jim Crabbe, S. Colquhoun and Gerry Santiago). Both the men’s and women’s teams are looking for another victory against Cornell this Friday at 4:00 in Mt. Vernon. Come out and help cheer on the swimmers to Nationals!
