The series, about an extraterrestrial explorer sent to scout out Earth, stars Robin Williams as Orkan Mork and Pam Dawber as Earthling Mindy.Mork has taken up residence in Boulder, Colo., where he has been taken in by 21-year-old Mindy. As a neophyte Earthling, Mork relies on Mindy to teach him human ways. The comedy tries to assimilate our confusing customs.Robin Williams has stolen the hearts of television viewers with his Orkan gibberish and his talent for mime. His portrayal of the guileless alien Mork helped “Mork and Mindy” to top ABC’s list of new shows for the year.Robin became a stand-up comedian as a “creative release” when he returned to San Francisco after three years of drama studies at The Julliard School in New York City and found a scarcity of acting opportunities.During his first year as a San Francisco club performer, Williams appeared at the Holy City Zoo, Intersection, the Great American Music Hall and The Boardinghouse.In Los Angeles, he continued to perform as a stand-up comedian at the Comedy Store, Improvisation and the Ice House.His first television appearance was on “Laugh-In” followed by “The GreatAmerican Laugh Off.” He then guested on ABC’s “Happy Days” as a visitor from another planet in “My Favorite Orkan,” ne episode which prompted the current fall series “Mork and Mindy.” He also appeared on “America Tonight” and on several Canadian shows including “Ninety Minutes Live” and “The Alan Hamel Show.”He performed in a feature film “The Last Laugh” for the American Film Institute and has also done several commercials.Williams married Valerie Veiardi, a dancer, in San Francisco on June 4, 1978 His avocational interests include cross-country running, yoga, roller skating and dance exercises.The other half of the “Mork and Mindy” comedy team is straight woman Pam Dawber.Alathough Pam is all but eclipsed by Robin Williams’ comedic talent, she provides a contrast — and a pretty one at that — to Mork’s zaniness.Mindy’s job in her father’s store is as far as Pam gets to exercising her four-octave soprano voice on the series.A native of Farmington, Mich., she moved to New York City to stretch her experience as a model and actress. While modeling and appearing in television commercials for a number of national products, she also was taking acting and voice lessons.Pam’s first professional performance was in a lead role in “Sweet Adeleine” at theGoodspeed Opera House in Last Haddam, Conn.
