CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A leader of the Kanawha County textbook movement and five other persons were indicted Fri day by a federal grand jury here for allegedly conspir ing to “‘damage and destroy’’ two county schools. The indictment charged that the conspiracy oc curred from Oct.1 to Nov. 15 last year, during the height of the controversy over school textbooks. Named in the six-count in dictment, returned in U.S. District Court were the Rev. Marvin Horan, Larry Elmer Stevens, Michael Wayne Blankenship, Jeannie Lynn Stevens, Melvin B. Dickerson and Delbert Lee Rose. Horan, pastor of the fun damentalist Leewood: Free Will Baptist Church, is a leader of the Concerned Citizens, a major, anti textbook group U.S. ‘Atty. John A. Field III. said ‘the first count ‘charged the six with con spiring to bomb two schools, the Midway Elementary and Valley Grove Elemen tary. Under the fourth count, all six are charged with “unlawfuly and malicously damaging and destroying the Midway Elementary School” in rural Kanawha County. Field said that oc curred Oct. 22. The fifth and sixth counts deal with the manufacture and possession of another dynamite bomb. The indict ment said the bomb was later disposed of and hidden from authorities. Field said maximum sentence for the first count was five years in prison and a $3,000 fine, and 10 years and $10,000 fine for counts two through six.
