It is on the Gulf side of the island and contains 122 units, built at a cost of above $2 million and owned by Canfield and Shaw En terprises of Norman, Okla A 38 acre tract on the Gulf and on the Laguna Madre sides of the island is being developed by Marisol Corporation, which has projected $15 million in construction for this year, according to R.E. Spriggs president. The first phase will provide 64 units and Phase II will have 47 three-story units, and the Bahia Mar Hotel, a $6 million project on the Gulf side, will have 200 rooms, Spriggs said. Work on the yacht basin and marina on the lagoon side is due to start this month, he said, and will have 154 town houses, a restaurant, and recreational facilities adjoining the marina. Ttaniff International Hotels has a 20-year contract to operate the facility. John Leer, president of the hotel division in Dallas, has said Other condominiums building in 1973 wall include the Tiki, a 144 unit facility on the Gulf beach, which estimates con struction of $2,360,000; the Isla del Sol, with $1,051,833, and the multi-million dollar Holiday Inn complex to be known as Gulf point and to be located on the Gulf and lagoon near the new CauseWay approaches to the Island. Development of the 61- acre site is projected over several years, Tom Woodward, president of Southwestern Dynamics, Inc., and Jack Pratt, president of Prattco, Inc., both Dallas firms, have indicated. Construction of a new Coast Guard station, costing around $950,000, and a $300,000 Marine Laboratory under the Sea Grant Program, have been announced but no definite financing or construction dates have been announced on these projects.
