Harry Von Tilzer, 73 Dies in New YorkHarry von Tilzer, 73, known in Indianapolis by his own name of Harry Gumbinsky, died Thursday, Jan. 10, in his New York City hotel room. He was the author of thousands of songs popular nearly fifty years ago, among them “A Bird in A Gilded Cage,” “Down on the Farm,” “In the Sweet Bye and Bye” and many others.Mr. von Tilzer had left Indianapolis many years ago, but had returned often to visit friends. He is survived by his fcur brothers, Will, Jules, Harold and Albert, the last of uhom also was a composer.
