PAT GRIFFIN IS DEADAFTER LONG ILLNESSErnest Howard (Pat) Griffin, widely known Georgia newspaper man and oldest member of the house of representatives in point of service, died at his borne in Bainbridge following an illness of several months. Mr. Griffin was most recently editor of the Bainbridge Post-Searchlight but turned the editorship over to his second son, Major S. M. Griffin, last June. He entered the House first in 1915,and served continuously from that time until his death, except for one term when he was defeated by one vote and refused to contest the election, not even demanding a recount.Mr. Griffin’s career as a journalist began with the establishment of the Pelham Free Lance in 1900. In 1905 he purchased the Bainbridge Post and ten years later merged it with the Searchlight, remaining editor of the Post-Searchlight until last June.Funer *1 services were held at the Baptist church in Bainbridge and an honorary escort composed of fellow representatives of Mr. Griffin was chosen by Speaker Ed Rivers.
