Tsage '. Boley was born in Harri son county, Indiana, May 22, 1936, and died at the home of his son, Charles H. Boley, near Washington, HI, January 9, 1923, at the advanced age of 85 years, 7 months and 14 days. Mr. Boley grew up on a farm in In diana where he lived until 1860, when he came to Illinois and made his home in Christian county. When the Civil War broke out he felt the call to go and fight for his country. He enlisted in Company I, 4A1st Illinois Infantry, and served un der Gen. McPherson, taking part in some of the most important battles of the war, such as the Battle of Shiloh, Seige of Vicksburg, the great Battle of Gettysburg and others. In all of these enragements he acquitted with great bravery. The hardships and exposures of army life during those terrible days of the war ser iously impaired his health, and the last six months of his service in the army were spent in a hospital. He was honorably discharged Aug. 20, 1864, and returned to Tlnois. De cember 29, 1868, he was united in marriage with Miss Adaline Potter, son, of Harrison county, Kidian They shared the joys and sorrow life for a little over 54 years—s an unusual record. Eight = chis were born to them, of whom i ‘os lacieng ells gE ag SST ey Prete (Mrs. Rich), of Normal, I Elizabeth” (Mrs. Wet.) of Larmedt Kansas, and Chistes of Washington, Ti., with where he had his home for the past few yeas in where he re ceived the most to or care and at tention. In 1876 Mr. Boley moved with his family to Larned, Kansas, where he lved for 8 years. In 1807 he came back to Hingis, and about five years ago he came into this section, living first at Deer Creek and then near Washington, TI. He was an indus trious as well as a patriotic citizen and was well Hkred wherever he lived. He always exerted a good influence in the community. He was converted in his youth and joined the Methodist church. Later in life he renewed his consecration with God and was always greatly in terested in religious things. The pro gress of the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ was near to his heart. He was a man of great faith and be lieved in the power of prayer. It was a delight to speak with him about the Bible and the christian life. He united with the Zion Evangelical here at Washington about three years ago, and though he was unable to attend the services on account of old age and physical weakness, yet he was deeply interested in our work. He was the oldest member of our congregation at the time of his death. He is survived by his life compan ion who is now 80 years old, and the three above mentioned children, 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, besides one brother at Larned, Kan.
