Distinguished Honors Paid to the Deceased Ambassador. Mexico City, January 17,The remains of the late Ambassador D. Romero, which ar rived here yesterday over the Mexican Central railway, were given a magnificent funeral today. The body lay in state in the superbly adorned chamber of deputies U this afternoon, being watched during the night and until the hour of funeral by Members of congress in half hourly turns. The decorations of the chamber were im pressive in the extreme. The flags of the American embassy and European and Japanese legations were at half mast yesterday and today. The body was natural as in life, wearing the well known serious expression, and had suffered no change by the long jour ney. This afternoon the great public fu neral took place, the honors being paid to the remains as in the case of a general of the army. The military escort comprised several thousand troops, the bands playing dirges. Hon. Ignacio Marasca, minister of for eign relations, pronounced an eloquent eu logy ,or the sife of the late ambassador, Whose long connection with the liberal party and the succesive governments of Mexico since the time of President Juarez have made him one of the most prominent men in the republic. President Diaz and a great concourse of People Were present and evinced deep emo tion as the body of Mexico's ambassador to the United States was consigned to the noble gothic tomb which he had but re cently prepared for his beloved wife.
