Moffett? begins a contined story in this issue of the Friend which will run through sev eral issues. The plot is simple, but it will be of thrilling interest, especially to tax payers. The subject of the story is, “How to Get Rid of Your Surplus Money,” or “Walk Up and Pay Your Rent” A Three-Seveced Sheriff. We are glad to announce that he is recov ering, and will soon be around our two legs again. Death of an Old Settler. Nelson Crane of Wavash township, died last Friday night at his residence, of heart failure. He had been in his usual health, but that night he com plained of pain in his breast and got up out of bed and sat down by the stove; when he got up to go back to bed, he dropped to the floor, and died without a word. He was in the city last Thursday, in good health. Mr. Crane was one of the oldest set tlers of the county—having lived near ly all his lifetime on the farm where he died. He was an honest, upright and industrious man, respected by all. He lived to a ripe old age, being nearly 80 years old. The funeral took place last Sunday; services were conducted by Rev. A. R. Next Sunday he goes to Veedersburg to preach, con sequently there will be no preaching services in his church here. Father Kirg,of the Catholic church, went to Veedersburg last Saturday night to hold services there on Sun day, but he was taken very sick and had to return the same evening, and he was too il to hold services in his church here. He is now much im proven. Rev. W. F. Switzer held regular services in the M. . church last Sun day morning, and in the evening he returned to Perrysville, where he is still assisting Rev. Smith in his re vival meeting. He reports that they are having a good meeting. He will remain there nearly all of this week. Regular services at the church next Sunday as usual. In about a week he expects to begin a series of revival meetings here, which will continue several weeks, and possibly longer. Elder J. P.
