Neuenschwander routinely placed stools on tables. padded seat down, so he could clean thefloors.“When I first took over, there were bar stools knocked down from where they had been put up at night, with no way for them to have fallen,” said Neuenschwander “Stools were upended onto tables, and the tables weren’t knocked over, just thestools.”Even more strange is the spilled bouquet“I used to have a bartender that’d bring in fresh flowers even Saturday. I went in one Sunday morning to clean up. and the flowers were laying lt;on the floor) near the cigarette machine, and the vase was about 10 feet away.” Neuenschwander said “That was when someone brought me the book ( Wisconsin Lore’) to look at.”Today, Neuenschwander keeps a framed copy of the legend on the wall of his establishment But. he said, it’s a little difficult to believe there is really a ghost tipping over chairs and spilling bouquets“I guess i’d just have to see it to believe it.Who knows? Perhaps one day. he’ll hear the footsteps of the broken-hearted murderer as he rushes down the stairs or he’ll catch a glimpse of the anguished ghost of the rejected and brutally murdered chambermaid as she dashes a bouquet of fresh flowers to the floor.Even if he doesn't, the legend—with its certain sense of magic—will live on.
