Major Wadsworth De scribes Outlet From Lander. Two Possible Routes for the Green River Valley. The Wooung Tribune of recent date | contained an article on the extension of the Northwestern railroad out of Lan der and referred to the possible exits thru the mountains The authority for the statements 1: Major Wadsworth Indian agent on the Shoshon reserva tion who recently sent a letter to Gov ernor Brooks describing the routes and enclosing a blueprint map Tso feau ble routes are shown by which any rail road entering Lander may find a route westward into the Greenwiter valley The first route runs south by south east out of Lander and follows the Raw lins stage route and then swings west up the Sweetwater and thru South Pass The other route 15 more direct but has a sharper grade it leaves Lander in a southwesterly direction and follows up the Big Popo Agie and across the divide to Pinedale It then proceeds north and west skirting the Forest Re parve to Hoback creek, which it follows out of the state by way of the Snake river Major Wadaworth way» that part of this route has already been surveyed by Northwestern surveyors and the ra wmainder has been declared feasible by one of the best engineers in Fremont county . We trust that Major Wadsworth is right, but we understand from those who are familar with the ‘territory de scriied that the last route ta impractic able Lander is 60 miles due east of us but the route now followed via South Pass is about 135 mile. There is a trail thru the mountains east of us known to only a few residents here now which is panable with pack tram for about two months each year If known as the ld Indian trail Mf a cut off route could be found thru here it would certainly be a great casing in railroad building , it would reduce the distance os about 80 mile. Vast resource are now held back in this country thru lack of railroad facil tion and we earnestly hope that some thing may be done to bring railway transportation closer
